GPX File. The Double Lake Recreation Area has one of the most extensive networks of singletrack in the Houston area.
muntain The network is set up a series of loops that can be linked up to make as long or short a ride as you want. This ride is the best way to see what these trails have to offer.
There are miles of flowing singletrack in the piney forest. The ride is almost all shady which is nice on a summer day and the sandy soils in this area drain quickly making it one of the first to dry out after a storm.
The best place to park is near the lodge. There are restrooms and showers here which are bi,e nice after a hot sweaty ride.
There is a really great BBQ place just outside the park. Go ahead This is the start of the singletrack.
Head into the trees and follow the trail. There are a few road crossings on this trail, so watch out for cars. The crossings are well signed and you shouldn't have any trouble picking up the trail on the other side.
Here make a left and keep going. After RCW Trail, you are heading back. Now things get a little bit tricky. There are a number of trails and roads that intersect, so watch the signs and make sure you find the Trail of Woe.
There traiil a number of points along the way to bail out and head back to the car, so don't worry about over committing. Skip the RCW Loop for a 12 mile ride, or ride the whole 15 mile loop.
This is a great place to park and begin your trip. The road will bend along the shoreline of Horseshoe Lake during which you will pass a variety of campsites as well as open views of the lake.
